DESCRIPTION

This project is a first step in a more streamlined process for the implementation of new renewable electricity projects in Flanders. For the years 2010, 2015 and 2020, it defines the zones in Flanders where projects aimed at the production of green power (wind, solar, cogeneration) are to be located preferentially. The calculations are performed using two models developed by VITO: the so-called Environmental Cost Model, which was used to produce prognoses with respect to renewable energy and cogeneration (CHP) until 2020, and, the RuimteModel land use model, which was used for the detailed geographical location of wind, solar and cogeneration, taking into consideration the current legislation on spatial planning and environment as well as the capacity of the available or future reception and transmission capacity.
